touchatag uses high frequency RFID (Radio Frequent IDentification) operating at 13.56MHz. touchatag uses passive RFID tags and active readers. touchatag is also compatible with Near Field Communication, a standard based on HF RFID and being implemented in more and more mobile phones.

No, we are using short range RFID technology (<4 cm), while retail chains mostly are using the long-range variant, Ultra High Frequency RFID.

RFID doesn’t require line of sight recognition, so you can embed tags into objects. But, keep in mind that the maximum readout distance is about 4 cm and that readout can be troubled when applying RFID tags on metals or liquids.

Yes, you can take a touchatag RFID tag, configure the related URL action via the touchatag web interface and the NFC enabled phone will open the URL. For non URL related actions (Skype call application, Music application and reader dependent application), we foresee to bring out a specific mobile client in the coming months.

No, unless you really like our e-commerce interface to buy new tag packages. You can always show us the results of bringing the tags to their limits.

Initially, only one tag can be readout by the reader at any time. In future client releases we will work on increasing this number.

touchatag tags (like most RFID tags) might not get properly detected by the reader if they are applied on a metal surface or on liquids.

The touchatag software client works on Windows XP, Windows Vista and the Intel-based Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 systems. A linux-based client is under development, please check out the development community discussions (http://www.touchatag.com/developer) if you would like to test the version currently available.

To edit your profile picture, visit your profile page (there's a link in the top navigation bar). Click on the "edit" tab. Scroll down to "picture". Click "Browse...". Choose a picture from your hard disk. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Save".

From now on, your image will show up with your blog posts, applications, forum posts etc.

Touchatag provides a starters kit including 1 USB NFC reader and 10 NFC tag. A refill package of 25 tags is also available.
