touchatag + Phidget21

I bought a touchatag and I'm trying to use Karen Tanenbaum's code for Processing (http://thegeekmovement.com/blog/?p=42#more-42) in conjunction with Phidget21 libraries.
When I try to run Karen's code, I get:
waiting for RFID attachment…
PhidgetException 13 (Given timeout has been exceeded.)
Which I imagine, it's because it's not detecting the touchatag reader. Anything I can do to fix this?
