Support Item #1.

Touchatag not functional on Mac OS X 10.6.7 MacBook Pro 2.26GHz

Installed the Touchatag app and the acsccid driver. Connected to the Internet. Able to log in to the Touchatag web site via browser.

Symptoms.

  • Most of the time the Touchatag app is "not responding".
  • Touchatag app will not quit.
  • Touchatag app requires Force Quit.
  • Menubar icon is Red. It is never Green.
  • Touchatag reader flashes correctly occasionaly yet menubar icon remains Red.

I have never been able to get Touchatag to work on this computer.

Support Item #2.

  • The acsccid driver corrupts the boot up process within OS X.
  • Boot up is stalled by the driver.
  • How does one actually know that they have uninstalled the driver?
  • The "uninstallers", if that is what they are, provide absolutely no meaningful feedback to the user.

Support Item #3

I was able to get it to work using a MacBook Pro with OSX 10.6.7 however I had to follow the following routine to the letter. Any other order would not work.

  • Shut down the MacBook Pro.
  • Connect the Touchatag Reader.
  • Start the MacBook Pro.
  • Launch Safari.
  • Browse to Touchatag site.
  • Log in to Touchatag site.
  • Launch Touchatag app.
  • Green light on Reader flashes correctly.

I was only able to programme one tag and usually that was it. The reader would give up and I had to repeat the process above to check a tag or programme a new one.

Conclusion

I was hoping to use Touchatag with my students however I have decided not to. I cannot guarantee it will work.
I cannot help but feel that I have seriously wasted my money on this product.
