Contactless cards, mobile phone stickers or NFC phones can be used for a wide range of applications beyond payment and loyalty services. Touchatag provides an open platform with APIs and a developer network to create and add these applications. These applications will help in the adoption of the core payment and loyalty services as well as bring in extra revenues. Most of these applications have been implemented by Alcatel-Lucent at various locations.

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise provides an interactive event experience solution to event organizers interested in facilitating interaction between event exhibitors and visitors in a durable and green manner. Simply touch an exhibitor booth with a contactless card or sticker at events to gather information instead of taking home tons of paper collateral. This digital bag application makes the information you are interested in available on a personal website. Exchange business card information by jointly swiping your contactless badges on a contactless reader with the BizXchange application, and see in real time who has exchanged information with each other on large screens via the social radar application. This event experience suite can be extended with the payment functionalities to create a prepaid event badge to replace all cash handling related to catering services.
Use a contactless card to touch an interactive billboard and to receive more personalized information about the offering via e-mail, SMS or even phone call. The interactive billboard in this case is equipped with an RFID reader. This has been piloted in Antwerp, Belgium by Alcatel-Lucent touchatag in cooperation with Proximity BBDO and Clearchannel, the outdoor advertising company. Pilot participants can use their contactless card to touch a Clearchannel interactive billboard. Upon touch, they receive an SMS and e-mail, and a coupon is added to their wallet. This coupon can then be redeemed at the point of sale.
The other scenario also exists, whereby a consumer with an NFC phone can touch a billboard equipped with a contactless tag to receive more information, subscribe to the direct marketing database or get a coupon.
Interact with buildings, objects or displays using the mobile phone’s camera or NFC functionalities to receive more information. This can be achieved using touchatag’s two-dimensional barcodes that can be scanned using the mobile phone camera to redirect to a mobile website or to receive an SMS. Smart poster scenarios use an NFC phone to touch the NFC tag on the poster to receive more information. An innovative and trendy way to let your consumers interact with your services.
Contactless cards, Key fobs and NFC phones can be used as well for time registration or presence services. The combination of prepaid functionalities integrated with time registration is ideal for usage in student cards and enterprise employee badges.
A special case of time registration whereby mobile workforce uses NFC phones to register their presence via a simple touch. This can e.g. be in case of visiting a patient at home by touching an NFC tag applied to the patient medical file. The central dispatching can follow in real time where the workforce is located and can intervene in case of abnormalities (e.g. for security guards on a predefined tour). The mobile workforce can also access the latest information via the touch (e.g. latest medical file information).
Use a contactless card, key fob, mobile phone sticker or NFC phone to log-in into a PC, or to log-in and personalize the phone settings in a flexible desk environment using the corporate badge. This can be complemented with a prepaid functionality, so that consumers can buy items on the Internet via simply touching the contactless reader connected to the PC.
Urban gaming is a fast growing trend made possible by various mobile technologies, such as Global Positioning Services (GPS) and Near Field Communication (NFC). Sometimes called location-based games, the games use widespread urban spaces for their play. Games can vary from fast-paced point-to-point races, to treasure hunts and problem solving challenges, to interactive tours of historical, cultural and other points of interest. touchatag™ makes urban gaming more exciting by providing a simple form of augmented reality: places, people and things can be linked to online information via simple, adhesive RFID tags which can then be read with an NFC-enabled phone.
