Inspiration for the touchatag community (part 2)

Here is an idea we had not thought off ourselves and we required the assistance of Wikipedia to understand the full context. We would like to present John M Knight and his “electromagnetic geospatial steampunk globe, using touchatag”. Mr Knight has incorporated touchatag with his steampunk globe and computer to remote control Google earth. To see the globe in action check out the photos and video http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnmknight/sets/72157622598555795/ Word of the day: steampunk: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk. Inspiration for the touchatag community: DIY Souvenir Video Tagging

Thanks to Alison Lewis, the touchatag community gets another inspirational example enabled by the touchatag service.

As Allison explains on her http://www.iheartswitch.com/ website: "Surprise your guests by linking any object in your home to online videos! For example, in my home, if a guest picks up one of the pieces from my tea set and places it on an area of my coffee table, it plays a movie from my trip to South Korea on my LCD screen."

This tea set was featured as part of a New York Times article on her living room renovation

New Blocks: June Update Delivers New Blocks for Touchatag Developers

Since the May 19 announcement of the new tools and APIs for developers, there have been some great requests for extensions to that functionality.

Through the ACS Block System, we delivered some of the requested functionality just this week.  Now online are several new functional blocks that touchatag developers can immediately put to use.

For example, the new Calculator block allows you to perform mathematical operations within a block workflow using standard operators (+, -, *, /, and so forth).

You will also find that several new data type converters provide further flexibility for your applications. For example, the TextToURI block now lets you to take a response from your external web applications (handled by the HTTPResponseProcess block) and use it as a URL that to send back to the end user's system (as a WebLink action).

Here is the complete list of new blocks:

Get Access to the Specification Tool
The easiest way to start using the Block System is with the Specification Tool, a special "developers-only" application that enables you to make custom touchatag applications by creating XML Specification documents.

    Touchatag at JavaOne 2009

    We are coming to JavaOne!

Having recently released our first set of developer tools and stable API, we will be in the Startup section of the JavaOne Pavilion (exhibition hall) talking to developers about joining Touchatag Developer Network and developing with our growing touchatag API.

How do you find us there? Look for the startup section of the Pavilion (or you can find our tiny spot on this huge map).

Most of the time, the booth will be staffed by me (Ted Haeger, manager of Touchatag Developer Network). I'll be showing some touchatag applications, discussing how to use our current API and where we're taking it next, and getting as much feedback as possible.

As previously announced in the developer forums, touchatag's lead architect Bert Van Vlerken is attending JavaOne next week. So, if you want to get really deep into the workings of touchatag, I can let you know when Bert will be at the booth (which typically means that I'm on a food break).

If you will be at JavaOne and you plan to swing by the booth, please leave a comment to let us know to expect you. (I may even have something waiting for you at the booth.)

    --Ted

Touchatag Update: More Applications, Developer Tools and Interfaces

The first fruits of spring have arrived, and the touchatag team is unveiling several great new features for touchatag users and developers.

Those who have been asking for more advanced technical features from touchatag will be delighted with the new applications in this release. Both the new E-mail Application and Advanced HTTP Application provide you a way to dispatch actions directly from the touchatag Application Correlation Service (ACS) in our data centers. And, to help you manage your tags more easily, you will also find that a new tag view interface in the touchatag dashboard.

For developers, the new Advanced HTTP Application is just the beginning. Behind this new application is a powerful new tool in the ACS Block System, called the ACS HTTP Client Block. Using it, you can call external application services using standard HTTP methods, which opens a whole new horizon for touchatag applications. This is just one of several ways how we are opening the touchatag ACS for developer innovation.

Click here to get an overview of the new functionalities to create contactless applications
